How to convert Unicode to Krutidev

  1. Copy your Unicode Hindi text — from a website, WhatsApp, Word or Google Docs.
  2. Paste it into the box above and press Convert to Krutidev.
  3. Copy the result and paste it into your document.
  4. Select the pasted text and apply the Krutidev 010 font.

Until you apply the font it will look like Latin gibberish — Hkkjr rather than भारत. That is expected: Krutidev stores Hindi as ordinary ASCII characters and relies on the font to draw Devanagari shapes.

Why would anyone convert back to Krutidev?

Unicode is the modern standard, so most of the time you want to move away from Krutidev. But a few situations still require it:

  • Government and court typing tests — many still mandate Krutidev 010.
  • Legacy DTP work — older PageMaker, CorelDRAW and QuarkXPress files.
  • Print houses that have kept Krutidev-based templates for decades.
  • Existing documents where new text must match the surrounding font.

For anything on the web, in email or on social media, stay with Unicode — see our Krutidev to Unicode converter for the other direction.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the output look like English letters?
That is exactly how Krutidev works. Each Hindi letter is stored as a Latin character and the Krutidev font draws the Devanagari shape on top. Apply the Krutidev 010 font to the text and it will read as Hindi.
Where do I get the Krutidev font?
Krutidev 010 is a free font widely distributed for Hindi typing. Install it on your computer, then select it from the font dropdown in Word, PageMaker or whichever program you are using.
Does this work for Devlys and Chanakya too?
Devlys 010 shares the same encoding, so the output works for it directly. Chanakya and Shusha are close but a few conjuncts differ — check the result before sending anything to print.
Is the conversion perfect?
Common words, matras and conjuncts convert cleanly. Rare ligatures and unusual half-letter combinations can need a manual touch-up, so proofread before printing.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing is sent to a server and nothing is stored.
