How your age is calculated
Age is worked out the way people actually say it — in whole years, then the leftover months, then the leftover days. If you were born on 15 March 2000 and today is 20 August 2026, you are 26 years, 5 months and 5 days old.
The calculator counts calendar months rather than dividing by 30, so it stays correct across February, leap years and months of different lengths.
Where you need an exact age
- Government forms — passport, PAN, Aadhaar and pension applications often ask for age on a specific date rather than today.
- Exam eligibility — UPSC, SSC, banking and railway exams set age limits as on a cut-off date. Use the Age as on field for exactly this.
- School admission — most schools set a minimum age as on 31 March or 1 June.
- Job applications — upper age limits, and relaxations for reserved categories.
- Insurance — premiums are set by age at entry, sometimes rounded to the nearest birthday.
Age in different units
The same age looks very different depending on the unit:
| If you are | That is roughly |
|---|---|
| 1 year | 12 months · 52 weeks · 365 days |
| 10 years | 120 months · 521 weeks · 3,652 days |
| 18 years | 216 months · 939 weeks · 6,574 days |
| 25 years | 300 months · 1,304 weeks · 9,131 days |
| 50 years | 600 months · 2,608 weeks · 18,262 days |
| 60 years | 720 months · 3,130 weeks · 21,915 days |
Day counts include leap days, which is why they are not exact multiples of 365.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate my age in years, months and days?
Enter your date of birth above. The result shows completed years, then remaining months, then remaining days — the same way age is written on official forms.
Can I find my age on a past or future date?
Yes. Change the "Age as on" field to any date. This is what exam forms mean when they ask for your age as on a cut-off date.
Does it handle leap years?
Yes. Day and hour totals count every actual calendar day including 29 February, so the numbers stay accurate over long spans.
Which day of the week was I born on?
It is shown in the last box. The calculator also tells you which day your next birthday falls on.
Is my date of birth stored anywhere?
No. Everything is calculated in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server and nothing is saved.
